Thorney New Pumps

New pumps for Thorney to halts flooding danger

Last night (14 Sep) I attended a meeting of Thorney Parish Council where a petition from 400 residents was presented concerning the flooding experienced recently in this village. The Parish Councillors were excellent in the manner they dealt with this and put the case to representatives from Anglia Water. Earlier this month I intervened on behalf of residents and Anglia Water have now agreed to buy new equipment to improve the situation. They have accepted my argument that urgent improvements were required though as yet no compensation has been offered to customers. One of whom is still unable to return home due to the damage.

There is a need for Anglia water, the drainage board, and the Peterborough Council to work with the Thorney Parish Council to find long term solutions and sort out this problem. I was impressed with the attitude from local residents and the parish councillors and call on Anglia Water to apologise for not replacing the pumps earlier and for all organisations to work together to sort out flooding in this village.
