St Michael's Gate

Please join the protest to support St Michael's Gate residents

Councillor Jo Johnson is asking you to join her on Wednesday evening to support the residents of St Michael's Gate in their campaign against their evictions.

Jo says "We are demonstrating outside the Town Hall before the main Council Meeting at 6.30 pm. Please come along by 5.30, ready for a peaceful but noisy protest until 6.30 pm. We need a change in the law to stop mass evictions of tenants that means companies can make millions in profit."

Jelana Stevic (St Michael's Gate resident) will be speaking at the full Council Meeting to present the petition about the contract with Stef & Phillips that has led to the eviction of existing tenants. Councillors will vote at the end of the debate.

There is also a motion about housing on the council agenda being moved by Councillor Ed Murphy. The Appendix to the motion gives the local case histories of the tenants and how the evictions have affected them and their families. If you want to go in to watch the council meeting you can do so, space will be limited so go in as soon as you can.

I hope you'll be able to join Jo and other Labour members along with the Peterborough Trade Union Council who are also supporting this protest.
