You may have heard about Neighbourhood Councils in the local press and radio recently. I have mentioned them at Branch Meetings.
These councils are an extension of the PCC’s decision making structures to support the local needs of the community and are chaired by elected members. Parish, resident, and community members will make up the councils. These first meetings are important and open to the public, I would urge fellow members to attend and help set the agenda. Proposed Key Responsibilities of each Council • Be the primary focus for public involvement and consultation within their area, working closely with other public, private and voluntary agencies in the area • Develop community action plans and monitor their implementation • Have responsibility for the following functions o Setting the standards for street cleaning and abandoned vehicles o agreeing the yearly programme of works under the Highways Act 1980 o designating conservation areas o setting the standards for allotments, parks, open spaces, public toilets, and car parks, including a yearly programme of works o naming and numbering streets • To promote the Council’s role as a community leader in its area, giving a “voice” to the community
Each Neighbourhood Council will meet 4 times a year, and the first meeting dates for central are listed below. As stated before these meetings are a really important way that you can have your voice heard in your community so I do hope you will consider attending. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Neighbourhood Councils please do not hesitate to give me a call.
