New Improved Road

New Improved Road Labour will fund a multi-million-pound improvement with work to start in the new year. The A1073 has seen 47 accidents in the last three years, killing and seriously injuring a number of people.

Transport Minister Rosie Winterton announced that the government would pay £70 million of the £80 million project, with the rest to be paid by Peterborough City Council and Lincolnshire County Council.

The A1073 Spalding to Eye Improvement Scheme has been given the green light to start, with the three-and-a-half-year-long works expected to begin in March.

The scheme will see a new 13.5-mile-long stretch built bypassing villages such as Eye.

The road can carry up to 17,000 vehicles every day, and it is hoped the scheme will also ease congestion, improving the situation for both motorists and people living alongside the road.
Ed Murphy Comment “This is marvellous news, not only for safety reasons, but also for residents returning local roads to local people. It will also allow the construction of local pathways and cycleways to encourage more walking and cycling, previously made difficult by heavy traffic.  Happy New Year”
