Don’t Scrap The Tap! The Brewery Tap which housed Peterborough’s first brewery in 80 years is under threat
from the North Westgate redevelopment.
Peterborough City Council in association with Morley Fund Management and Hammerson feel that this “will introduce a vibrant
mixed-use quarter into the city centre,” when all it is doing is demolishing buildings that don’t need to be demolished and turning the city into another faceless shopping
centre.
Peterborough Labour Party spokesman Ed Murphy understands the need to redevelop the area and has successfully campaigned for affordable rents
for local independent traders, however he feels, “that the Brewery Tap is too important to demolish.
“This is one of the safest venues in town, with some of the best local ales that
until the threat of demolition loomed were brewed on the premises and has an award winning Thai menu. The pub is a
talking point amongst visitors to the city and we have to do everything we can to keep the Brewery Tap where it is."
Last year The Brewery Tap’s owners Oakham Ales launched a petition called “Don’t Scrap the Tap” which has already collected 14,500 names in
the hope that developers will think again, if you would like to add your name to it visit http://www.oakhamales.com/newsletterNewsletterRegForm_UP.aspx
